I tried the 365-day jar, here’s what happened

It all started with this post I saw on Pinterest, “fill a jar with happy memories you get every day! At the end of the year you can open it and go back through your wonderful year!” and of course I was like, oh! You can write all these memories and remember everything great at Dec 31? That sounds wonderful, this is what happened:

  • I couldn’t do it every day!

Somedays I remembered, but some others I just had a lot of stuff to do to stop and think, oh! I should write something good that happened today

  • My life is not that interesting

At first, I thought my jar was going to be filled with lots of inside jokes, adventures, trips and amazing memories I would surely want to remember, but not every day in my life is filled of laughter and adventure, so sometimes I couldn’t even think of what to write.

  • You start appreciating the little things

I ended up writing about how the time I found a dollar at the street, bought a book, went out with my friends or bought a Starbucks, not so relevant, but at least my jar was getting filled right?

  • Not every day is full of sunshine

There are days you feel down, angry or have an argument, well those count as memories, right? Well, let me tell you, writing them down is a great way to let the feelings go and think, at Dec 31 I will probably laugh about this right?

When I finally opened it: I’m not going to lie, I was pretty excited to see how my year went down and analyze it. Well, you’ll imagine my disappointment when I spend about an hour reading about an irrelevant Starbucks I bought, fights I had with my friends and fears of mine for the future, out of 400 little notes or so, only 100 were actually important for me, and those included my inside jokes, funny memories, little adventures, and conversations I would like to remember later, the other 300 I could easily throw to the trash can, because they held no meaning at all.

Final thoughts: you should definitely try it, just don’t pressure yourself to do it every day and only fill it with MEANINGFUL THINGS, or else you’ll get an hour long filled with boredom on Dec 31. Trust me, if you do as I say you may even get a teary eye on your New Year’s Eve for the amazing things that happened this year!

As always, thank you for supporting me. Please Share and comment. And if you try this PLEASE tell me about your experience!!
